About me

After a career in the NHS and Civil Service, I have been a charity chief executive for 20 years in three different charities with different governance structures, purposes and beneficiaries. They were:
- The Queen's Nursing Institute (national)
- The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (national and international)
- Kyra Women's Project (local)
I also have experience as a Trustee of four different registered charities/companies limited by guarantee, and as a Director of two charitable companies, both with wholly-owned subsidiary trading companies.
With an MSc in Public Sector Management and a Post-graduate Diploma in Applied Social Research, I have a strong background to help charitable businesses to succeed.
Other valuable experience that I can bring to help your charity/not-for-profit includes:
- managing the Manchester City-wide Multi-disciplinary Audit and Quality Group, giving me audit and quality management and measurement skills
- publishing books and writing up research - developed strong writing and editing skills
- facilitating change for 101 GP practices in North Staffordshire - bringing disparate and busy individuals together to achieve common aims
- developing policy and briefing senior people in the Department of Health - strategic thinking, concise writing and presentation skills were key
- leading a local, service-delivery charity with a small staff and many volunteers
- mentoring for The Rank Foundation's Time to Shine Leadership Programme, providing expertise in individual support through times of change.
